Where Did All The Colours Go?

Happy summer, folks! As the flowers bloom and the birds return, we've noticed a pattern cropping up in our inbox:

"I don’t see a wide selection of colours on your Unbelt Canada website. Have you discontinued most of the colour options?" - Lois

"I am missing all the colour choices you used to have. Are you not carrying them anymore?" - Trish

"Will you make the light beige classic unbelts again. Would really like one. I notice your colour selection has reduced." - Christine

When we start hearing the same feedback over and over, we know it's time to type up an update - and this is an excellent question. Where did all the colours go?

It's not a matter of taste. We love bright and bold colours too! Having a rainbow of elastic options to choose from was a key feature of our selection for a long time. We know nothing beats the feeling of finding the perfect outfit-completing shade. But, we have to level with you:

 

It's no longer sustainable to carry a large range of colours.

We don't want to lead people on, or offer false hope. The truth is that most of those discontinued colours will not be returning.  Every elastic colour comes with a minimum order volume, shipping fees which have ballooned since 2020, and operational complexity for our small team to absorb.

To meet our goals of environmental sustainability, accessible pricing, and a happy, healthy workforce, something had to give. Narrowing our colour range helps keep Unbelts, well, Unbelts.

 

So what's changing?

As we liaise with our factories and focus on R&D for the coming design cycle (we can't wait to tell you all about it), you'll notice our offerings start to slim down until we're holding 3-5 core colours per style. This process has already occurred for Kids' and Classic Unbelts.

Under this new model, colours will be (re)introduced once a core colour has sold through. You can help us decide what to bring in by emailing us at hello@unbelts.com, like Lois, Trish and Christine did. If we know that everybody wants a particular shade, we can order it with confidence.

 

What's staying the same?

Our 4 styles: Classic, Intrepid, Kids' and (Re)Mix, aren't going anywhere. Our design team is hard at work on some exciting new stuff as well. Discontinued colours are often featured in our selection of upcycled accessories, made from our leftover elastic.

Our pricing, sizing, quality guarantee, warranty, and repair policy are all still in place. Belts in discontinued colours remain under warranty. Our priority is serving you with belts that will last a long time, and feel *uh-mazing* for just as long.

 

So you're making recession belts now?

Pfft. Can you imagine? In fact, Unbelts are bolder than ever. Paring down those big international elastic shipments lets us shift our energy to highly unique, hyper-local endeavours which breathe new life into pre-existing materials. From silicone-backed elastic sublimated with work from local artists, to our delightfully bright ColourPop (Re)Mix, we continue to offer belts that make a (fashion and social) statement.

 

What should I do if I want bright and bold Unbelts?

Our colourful Intrepids and silicon-backed (Re)Mix bands will be available until the elastic runs out. Our Bright & Bold sale, which runs through June 30th, is the perfect opportunity to stock up on these soon to be gone colourways. When you buy 2 or more items from the Bright & Bold collection, you save 20%.

The sale’s feature item is the Bright & Bold Upcycled (Re)Mix. Re-combined from our own elastic scraps, these (Re)Mix Unbelts are a rainbow burst of joy with interchangeable buckles made right here in Edmonton, Alberta. No two bands are exactly alike. We'll select a complementary buckle which is compatible with all your other (Re)Mix bands. It's a multicolour surprise from us to you. <3
