All About Unbelts Part 3: All About (Re)Mix
Share
In the part 1 and part 2 of this series on our core 4 styles, we introduced you to our OG Unbelt, the Classic, and to its high-performance counterpart, the Intrepid. Now we’re happy to (re)introduce you to our most recent design, the hyper-local (Re)Mix.
.
Background:
The (Re)Mix was dreamt up after Claire discovered that Unbelts had been duped… like… a lot (you can read more about that saga here). Shoddy pseudo-Unbelts were being sold on platforms like Amazon, and even worse - people were mistaking them for the real deal.

In response, Claire set to work on a design that was undupable. That meant:
- An insourced production chain
- One-of-a-kind elastic
- A bold, unmistakable look
- Small batch sewing
The result: A super comfy, super local, super repairable, super personalized belt.

The (Re)Mix launched in October 2024, and received a (re)freshed buckle design in 2025. The original ‘D’ buckle is iconic, but the simplicity and sleek look of the new square buckle lined up better with our suite of user-friendly designs.
Thanks to your feedback (seriously, tysm, we love hearing from you), we went ahead and made the switch. Owing to our interchangeable hardware system, both buckle styles are compatible with all (Re)Mix bands.
.
Manufacturing and composition:
Every (Re)Mix band is cut and sewn at our Edmonton sewing studio, located at Unbelts HQ. Our current lead sewist is Amy, whom you may recognize as the jeans wizard behind Denim Rescue.
(Re)Mix Steel Hardware was cut, rolled, tumbled and powder coated in South Edmonton. The elastic comes from Mr. Wang’s factory, and was pulled from Intrepid overstock in our Edmonton warehouse (keeping up our local and/or pre-existing materials streak). Our ColourPop elastic was reclaimed here at HQ and at our Kansas warehouse. It was (Re)Mixed in North Edmonton. Our care tags come from Mr. Yeung’s label and packaging factory. Our international suppliers are located in and around Dongguan, Guangdong province, in south China.

Intrepid elastic is made from:
- 63% recycled polyester (rPET) - this synthetic fibre is derived from polyethylene terephthalate; the plastic found in soda bottles and takeout containers.
- 37% recycled latex - latex is what gives the belts their ultra-accommodating stretch. Our latex is completely encased in other fibres, making it less likely to trigger allergies.
-
Silicone rubber backing - keeps the belt in place by gripping the waistband of your pants.
ColourPop elastic is made from:
- 40% recycled polyester (rPET)
- 40% latex
- 20% nylon - this synthetic fibre is used to stabilize the rPET and achieve the desired texture
In addition to being locally sourced, the steel (Re)Mix buckles have superior durability. A trade off of this is that they are not beep-free in airport scanners. However, the new square buckle can be removed from the band without taking the belt out of your belt loops. Place the buckle in the bin, and reattach it once you’re through.

Mix & Match Hardware System:
Adjuster - a removable powder-coated steel component which comes with the (Re)Mix band. The elastic is threaded through this component to allow for re-sizing, and it hooks onto the ‘tail’ of the Unbelt to keep it in place.
‘D’ Buckle - a complex statement buckle which the (Re)Mix band is threaded through to create tension. The open end of the buckle hooks through the other side of the band to fasten the Unbelt. These are currently only available at our YEG Brick & Mortar.

Square Buckle - a simplified version of the ‘D’ buckle. This design hooks into both sides of the band. Unhook one side to unfasten the belt. Unhook both sides to remove the buckle.

Buckles and bands are available together for $59, or separately for $35.
.
Variants:
ColourPop - Our ColourPop reels are sourced from reclaimed bright and bold pandemic-era overstock. The hardware from these belts was resewn onto complimentary neutrals, and the tags were converted into the *cutest* minimalist packaging loops. All-in-all, we were able to upcycle over 95% of the materials in these deadstock belts, giving them a chance to remain in circulation and deferring the creation of new Classic elastic and hardware.
Each ColourPop band is an original, with unique colour combos and ratios. We drop new colourways every few months.
Basics - Bright and bold isn’t for everybody. That’s why we also have (Re)Mix bands sewn from Intrepid elastic overstock. You can pick out a monochrome belt with our signature squiggly silicone backing.
.
Choose (Re)Mix If:
You want to take ‘buy Canadian’ to another level.
You’re looking for a bright and bold statement piece.
You like to (Re)Mix it up from day to day.
